Book Awards

Mount Holyoke book awards serve to recognize high school students' academic and personal achievements as well as to increase the College's visibility in local communities. Last year alumnae gave a record 337 book awards throughout the world. The awards are presented annually to young women in the junior class with an excellent academic record in a challenging college preparatory program who have exhibited qualities of leadership and service in the school community. Many former book award recipients are now proud MHC alumnae.

Sharon Nelson-Barber chairs the Book Awards Committee.

Sharon said,   "I want to thank everyone for their support, particularly the alums who helped out--Amy Laden, Nancie Fimbel, Lois Graham and Stephanie Wick-- and I look forward to continuing  the work. The local high schools remain enthusiastic and we had a number of new schools. We expect more to be on board for the coming year. (We have to beat Texas!! Last year we came in second with 19 awards to their 24.)
Please communicate to the group that it is fun and rewarding to maintain contact with potential students and that I need more help. Please encourage any interested persons to contact me."

This year, Sharon is holding a reception at her house to honor both the award recipients and their high school counselors.  Book awards are a wonderful way to keep the high schools aware of MHC!
