ADMISSIONS AND CURRENT STUDENTS

Thanks to great cooperation from our alumnae and MHC Admissions, we had another strong applicant pool from the Bay Area this year. Our club region, which includes the Peninsula, South Bay and Monterey areas, now has 3 first years attending from this area, with another to join them in the spring term!

The president of Mount Holyoke College, Joanne Creighton, has said that the college defies polls that show most high school students want a large coed college in an urban environment.   Mount Holyoke is a small single-sex college in a beautiful rural area.  The college has a wonderful campus where the many new buildings tie in gracefully with the older ones.  The faculty is filled with people who love to teach as well as do research, and the faculty/student ratios in all departments are high enough so students can get to know the professors.  The college has had an increasing number of applicants each year for the past five years. The students are super!

The college has two volunteer alumnae representatives.  Ann Lyles MacPhail, '91, covers the Peninsula, and Cristina Ilangakoon, '95, covers the Santa Cruz to Monterey area.  They visit high schools to represent Mount Holyoke at college fairs and help with interviewing prospective students.  They also plan and host events to encourage potential students and answer parental questions.
